The Graduate Diploma in Business will support you in managing the transition into one of the postgraduate degrees offered by Northumbria University. The programme offers both integrated English language development for business as well as subject specific modules, designed to give you a detailed understanding and knowledge of how business works.

The first 3 language based modules for the Graduate Diploma focus on key skills and language development to provide you with a strong foundation of English for academic purposes. As you progress to Semester 2, the business modules will provide you with a detailed understanding and knowledge of how business works and will teach you the skills and confidence required to study successfully on our Masters programmes.

Academic entry requirements

Minimum of a third class pass or ordinary degree from a UK university or equivalent.

Progression route

Studying the Graduate Diploma at the Northumbria London Campus is the ideal preparation for studying one of the MSc programmes of Northumbria.

Upon successful completion and subject to specific entry requirements, you can go on to study a range of postgraduate degrees at the London & Newcastle campus of Northumbria University.

All modules are core:

  • Developing Academic Skills for Business and Management (20 credits)
  • Business and Management in Context (40 credits)
  • Communicative Skills for Business in Speaking and Listening (20 credits)
  • Communicative Skills for Business in Reading and Writing (20 credits)
  • Applied Language Development (20 credits)

 

The first 3 modules (Communicative Skills for Business in Listening and Speaking, Communicative Skills for Business in Reading and Writing and Applied Language Development) will help you to develop core English communication skills using both leading English for Academic Purposes textbooks and the type of authentic materials such as lectures and journal articles used in the later 2 modules: Business and Management in Context and Developing Academic Skills for Business and Management.

By successfully completing these modules you will gain the skills, knowledge and confidence required to study successfully on our Masters programmes.

During the course of this programme you will have access to the interventions currently offered to all undergraduate Newcastle Business School students that seek to develop a range of attitudes and attributes that will put you in a competitive position when entering the job market.
