Following my recently completed Master of Business Studies under the National University of Bangladesh, I take great interest to study an MBA programme under the Northampton University, the ‘Gold’ ranked university by the Teaching Excellence Framework.

I have made the decision after considering all aspects of my academic and career developments. In my Master of Business Studies, I have gathered one-dimensional knowledge mainly focused to management and yet to very limited areas while my academic target is to achieve rounded knowledge in different crucial functionality of business and industry required by global business and industries. A SWOT analysis of my current attainments has driven me to pursue further insights in the area and an MBA turned out to be the most obvious choice. Considering the trends of employers in Bangladesh, this qualification could help me win the career I aspire for and develop it to strategic level position successfully.

When researching the MBA course offered at Northampton University, I find the core units including Critical Issues in Business, Management and Organisational Behaviour, Strategic Marketing, Managing Operations and Supply Chain, Competitive Strategy and Innovation, Financial Decision Making, International Business Negotiation, The Entrepreneurship Project, Organisational Culture and Work Environments and Business Research Project  are areas that one cannot miss out at masters level to become competitive in the globalised business world. Without academic depth in these, I have considered myself incomplete and set my mind to attain these by following the MBA course.

My Bachelor I Business Studies earlier and my Masters in Business Studies recently both are under the National University of Bangladesh – in Bangladesh, tuition are mostly theory -based and assessments are exam-based in which I have been evaluated on the basis of how well I have memorised the topics and how much I have been able to put in exam papers. In comparison, UK Universities focus on applied knowledge and practice-based assessment hugely while the tuition is provided in the light of real-world scenario via report writing, project consultancy, seminars, presentations and business simulations. Besides, UK Universities promote soft skills, analytical, critical appreciation, leadership, cognitive, communication skills to prepare graduates as professionals ready to start jobs on graduation. This feature of UK have led my choice for UK as my MBA study destination country while course units, learning outcome and the university resources have biased by choice for the Northampton University.

As this MBA is a practice-led course, it would help me developing advanced level dynamic business and industry knowledge and enhancing my academic knowledge level to strategic business and management practice stage. I will have the opportunity of ‘learning by doing’ in live consultancy projects with leading employers. Through practice events by working with professional industry-linked professors, I will be able to develop professionally, improve ability of innovation, creativeness and leadership. Moreover, as the course has been designed to recognise the attributes of professional body e.g. the Chartered Management Institute, this would a great opportunity to gain their hallmark skills including team-working, negotiation skills, leadership, confidence and the ability to apply critical and creative thinking to complex and unclear problems to develop innovative solutions. The qualification would, indeed, have significant impact in my academic and professional life – this MBA would transform as a ‘career ready’ professional ready to start the job with confidence and competence.

My plan is, on completion of the MBA, to go back to home country Bangladesh that has recently seen tremendous economic development and the rise of national, multinational and international business and organisations. Garments industry, housing, roads and transports, health, education, telecommunications, financial market, banking, service sector, insurance industry – all sectors are thriving. My career plan primarily evolves in the private banking sector unless my newly acquired knowledge and skills provide me newer thought to revise the plan and aim for different options.

I have chosen to study the MBA at Northampton University because with a well established reputation as a forward thinking and modern university, the university offers a vibrant and stimulating environment for higher education. As a student at The University of Northampton you will find a great combination of high quality academic provision, first-class resources and a friendly, supportive learning environment to transform lives and inspire change.
