BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering

Course Overview

This BEng degree provides you with a comprehensive academic understanding of electronic engineering, and you’ll also develop problem solving abilities and an understanding of team working – skills that will be essential in any successful career in electronics or electronic engineering.

For 2016 entrants to BEng (Hons)/MEng Engineering degree courses, Birmingham City University (BCU) is offering a guaranteed placement during your course which will take the form either of a summer internship or a year-long sandwich placement.

Academic entry requirements

GCE A Level/ AS Level - BBC at A Level or 280 UCAS tariff points from A Level (to include Maths) with a minimum of 2 A Levels, at least one from a Science, Technology, Mathematics or Computing subject and including A Level Maths at grade C or above.

English entry requirements

Students for whom English is not the first language must satisfy the University requirement for IELTS currently at 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in any component.

Progression route

Further academic study of MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or professional career.

Year in industry

The academic year is split into two semesters and you’ll study different modules in each – all of which will challenge you intellectually and test your technical capabilities. You’ll have class contact and have plenty of opportunity to work in the university’s dedicated labs.

Assessment methods
You will be assessed in a number of different ways during your course. These will include continuous assessment, in-class tests, examinations, laboratory exercises and project work.
