Academic entry requirements

• passes in two distinct subjects at GCE Advanced Level;

• a pass in one subject at GCE Advanced Level plus (a) passes in two distinct subjects at GCE Advanced Subsidiary Level, or (b) a Vocational A-Level Single Award, or (c) two Vocational A-Level part Awards;

• a Vocational A-Level Double Award; or

• a Vocational A-Level Single Award plus (a) two Vocational A-Level part Awards, or (b) passes in two distinct subjects at GCE Advanced Subsidiary Level; or

• a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma; or

• a Scottish Certificate of Education with (a) passes in five subjects, including at least three at Higher grade, or (b) passes in four subjects all at Higher grade or New Higher grade; or

• the full Diploma of the International Baccalaureate; or

• an Irish Leaving Certificate with passes in four subjects at Grade C at the Higher level.

English entry requirements

Students for whom English is not the first language must satisfy the University requirement for IELTS currently at 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any band. Applications without this level of English qualification may enrol in the summer pre-sessional English course to obtain an equivalent qualification.

Assessment methods

Combination of examination, coursework and a supervised independent business research project.

Progression route

Further academic study of masters degree in business, management, MBA or Professional career.

Main learning outcomes

In the first year, you'll be given a thorough grounding in the principles of business management. Our modules, designed to address the issues of the modern business environment, have recently included Business Skills, People and Organisations, Marketing and Enterprise, Quantitative and Accounting Methods for Business, Business Economics and Business Law. 

In your second year, you'll have the chance to focus on areas that interest you. Recent examples have included Managing Organisations, Business Research, The European Economy, Managerial Economics, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Retail Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, and Entrepreneurship.

In your final year, you'll either undertake a business project or dissertation. We'll also offer a range of modules, which might include Economics and Government, Capital Markets and Investment, Learning and Development in Organisations, Applied Marketing Communications, International Marketing, Retail Theory and Practice, Graduate Enterprise, Corporate Strategy or Business Ethics.
