If the plan goes ahead, international students in the UK will be allowed to work 30 hours or unlimited hours per week during their studies – this essentially will facilitate more earning potential for students while tackling workforce shortage issue for the UK.

The UK government is considering increasing the current provisions of working hours international students can work during their studies. Ministers are in discussion to increase the work hour limit from 20 hours per week to 30 hours per week or to remove the limit and allow international students to work unlimited hours during their studies.
In a bid to fill job vacancies across the country and to ensure economic growth, ministers may make the policy and include it in its international education strategy.
The policy would allow student more choice and flexibility without barriers when intending to work. This alongside the Graduate Visa post study would make UK a more popular study destination for international students.
Currently, international students are able to apply/switch to Skilled Work Visa without needing a UK degree and many students a have taken the advantages while filling out job vacancies to help tackle workforce shortage.
However, there have been also concerns about the government's plan of removing the working hours limit whether this would hamper the study progress of students. There is also concern about negative impact on students' health and well-being.
There were other proposals from different ministers and stakeholders, both in favour and against number of student migrations in the UK, Post-Study Work durations etc. and it seems government is bit puzzled and not sure about its strategy. To remain attractive and competitive with other English-speakingcountries, UK must find the right combinations of policies for international students.
