Canada has just announced 4 important changes for students from other countries

Canada has introduced restrictions for international students, such as capping study permit applications and changing work permit eligibility for spouses. They've also extended post-graduation work permits for master's degree graduates while altering eligibility for certain college programs.

In recent months, Canada has introduced several measures to limit the entry of international students and those already enrolled in Canadian institutions.

The most significant announcement came in January from Immigration Minister Marc Miller, who stated that the Government of Canada would impose a cap on international student permit applications for two years. For 2024, this cap is anticipated to result in approximately 360,000 approved study permits, marking a 35% decrease from 2023.

The IRCC stated, "While international students contribute significantly to Canada’s campuses, communities, and economy, we have observed unsustainable growth in the International Student Program in recent years."

It further stated that these newly introduced reforms will foster sustainable population growth in Canada, enhance system integrity, and contribute to a positive experience for international students in the country.
