To master my business management knowledge and skills that I have gained from my recently completed Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course, I aim to follow the Master of Business Administration course (MBA) and progress towards my career goals. After extensive search and research of course, universities and study destinations, I have decided to undertake the MBA programme offered by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

At UWS, this MBA has been designed with core modules including Integration of Business Functions, Analytical Thinking and Decision- making, Managing Organisational Health, Influencing Organisational Strategy, Creativity and Business Wealth, Strategic Business Project so that students are well prepared for the realities of global business and management. The contents are made of a rigorous and inspiring blend of theory and practice to develop ability to think critically with learning targets to tackle global, social problems through the integration of business and science. In addition to the academic underpinning, the course also aims to develop learners’ personal and professional ability and leadership skills. The optional module Leading Change & Influencing Organisational Culture and Change from the Leadership stream will add invaluable dynamism to the accomplishments of this great MBA programme.

After going through the course details from the university website and brochure, I understand that the course is a practice-led study programme. I will have an opportunity to develop advanced level dynamic business and industry knowledge and enhance my academic knowledge level to strategic business and management practice stage from the attainments. There will be a chance of ‘learning by doing’ in live consultancy projects at leading international companies in the UK through practice events by working with professional industry-linked professors. Additionally, as this MBA course aligns the attributes of professional and industry body, it aims to provide their hallmark skills including team-working, negotiation skills, leadership, confidence and the ability to apply critical and creative thinking to complex and unclear problems to develop innovative solutions. The achievements will have significant impact in my academic and professional life – I will be transformed as a ‘career ready’ professional ready to start the job with confidence and competence. This rigorous and career-oriented MBA programme, once qualified will give the message to my employer that I can think strategically and beyond my immediate role. The qualification will undoubtedly help me gain a competitive edge and drive my career forward.

I have established a good foundation in business and management area from my Bachelor of Business Administration study under the Leading University, Bangladesh. The study has covered different functional areas of business in details with middle tier knowledge and provided me a good base to develop higher levels. A master degree of same genre should be an ideal match and an MBA is the obvious choice which I have targeted. In this, I can bring my knowledge forward to complement the MBA learning contents and then top up my knowledge with advanced ones and new areas. I can also bring in my practical skills that I have gained from the internship at Southeast Bank Limited, a leading private bank in Bangladesh. The study will be, indeed, a great opportunity to enhance my academic knowledge and professional skills at higher levels with wider prospects.

I plan to go back to my home country with the transferable knowledge and skills gained from this MBA qualification and open my career there. My career goal primarily evolves in the private banking sector unless my newly acquired knowledge and skills provide me newer thought to revise the plan and aim for different options. As fresh graduate from UK, I expect to grab trainee management position which I can develop in the long-term and see myself at top management level.

I have attained my Bachelor of Business Administration followed by my primary, secondary and higher secondary studies in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, tuition are mostly theory-based and assessments are exam-based in which I have been evaluated on the basis of how well I have memorised the topics and how much I have been able to put in exam papers. In comparison, UK Universities focus on applied knowledge and practice-based assessment hugely while the tuition is provided in the light of real-world scenario via report writing, project consultancy, seminars, presentations and business simulations. Besides, UK Universities promote soft skills, analytical, critical appreciation, leadership, cognitive, communication skills to prepare graduates as professionals ready to start jobs on graduation. These features of UK have led my choice for UK as my MBA study destination country.

I have researched few universities in the UK that offer the MBA course including BPP University, University of Bedfordshire, University of East London, and London South Bank University. I have undertaken a holistic view for selection of course and university that match my academic profile, learning target and investment in education budget most. After careful thought and pragmatic analysis, I have made the MBA course offered by UWS as my first choice.

The University of the West of Scotland is ranked by Times Higher Education in their 2018 World University Rankings as being in the top 3% of universities worldwide, and feature in the top 200 of their Young University World Rankings. In fact, 94% of UWS graduates are in work or further study research 6 months after graduating. The course is delivered to prepare students as career-ready with practical features in the learning targets. The teachers have professional teaching background and experience from the industry. The course has been designed to meet the needs of today’s businesses and anticipate future needs, giving you the relevant skills to make an immediate impact in the workplace. By following this MBA course, I will gain competitive advantage and be able to set myself stand out from the ordinary.

The London campus of UWS is situated in the center of one of the world’s most famous financial districts. With its modern and professional study facilities, the London Campus is conveniently located where the financial district meets the heart of London’s digital and technology sector. This gives the London campus a unique atmosphere and buzz that is hard to find anywhere else in the country. The campus is located and designed to provide students real-world taste of business management discourses and on-hand business etiquettes from the rich business community in London. This gives students an excellent base from which to take full advantage of all that London has to offer, including work experience and networking opportunities. I think it would be a rewarding experience to become a student of the university’s London campus.
