Business success requires a breadth of knowledge and abilities of efficient management to survive in fierce global competition. The economic backbone of contemporary world is backed by business and creative management that can administer and conducts operations with strategic action in different functions. Since my academic interests and career visions evolve in the area, I have made decision to study the BA (Hons) Business Management programme to implement my plans.

This degree offered at the University of Sunderland London provides a broad, deep and integrated understanding of the main business functions within a modern, international context.

The Strategic Management Accounting module of the course will enable to learn to identify the critical success factors of the competitive strategy, analyse risks and opportunities of each such competitive strategy, the implications for financial planning and control systems, key account management and profitability, evaluating and controlling strategic investment decisions, use of value chain analysis to identify performance improvement opportunities, design and implementation of financial control systems for financial and non-financial measures, separate economic and managerial performance indicators, pricing decisions.

From the Strategic Management module, I aim to learn ongoing activities and processes that organizations use to systematically coordinate and align resources and actions with mission, vision and strategy throughout an organization, to transform the static plan into a system that provides strategic performance feedback to decision making and enables the plan to evolve and grow as requirements and other circumstances change, to appreciate and understand the integrated and complex nature of management practice, to apply management concepts, models and theories, in order to analyse and evaluate issues in contemporary management practice.

The Strategic Human Resource module of this BA will teach me how to be proactive in the management of people. It will provide me the ability of thinking ahead, and planning ways for a company to better meet the needs of its employees, and for the employees to better meet the needs of the company - being able to plan for the needs of employees by thinking ahead can help to improve the rate of skilled employees who chose to remain working for a company while improving the employee retention rate can reduce the money companies spend on finding and training new employees.

Study of the Marketing Strategy will teach me the way to satisfy customers in the chosen markets. I will develop strategies including market penetration, market development, product development, and diversification etc.

Managing Projects module will be a good study to learn project skills including meeting time targets, making best use of resources in the organisation and elsewhere, taking account of changes in the way the organisation operates, manage any risks that could jeopardise success of the project, taking into account the needs of staff and other stakeholders who will be impacted by the changes brought about by the project, creating and implementing deliverables that meet agreed requirements, staying within financial budgets, delivering the outcomes and benefits required by the organisation, its delivery partners and other stakeholder organisations.

The Contemporary Development in Business Management module will help me gather knowledge in the International business environment, political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, legal, competitive, financial environment of business. The study of this module will develop my understanding of globalization and its impact on business, corporate social responsibility of business and my roles as a potential manger.

In addition to the academic learning above, I will learn how to become an excellent and persuasive communicator; to think creatively and analytically; to make logical business decisions; to interpret and use business management information; to manage time, projects and resources; to work effectively as a member of a team with the ability to lead and inspire others; to be self-reliant; to use initiative and to champion an ethical and socially responsible approach to business and business management.

It is relevant to mention that I had studied Financial Accounting, Accounting in Business, Management Accounting in my ACCA programme – these modules will form parts of the Strategic Management Accounting module’s syllabus. In my Diploma in Management Studies in most recent past, I studied Business Strategy, Principles of Management & Leadership, Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Development, Operations Management in Business subjects and these will complement few modules of this BA study in large context due to the similarities in learning outcomes and common knowledge. Obviously the BA, being a higher level qualification, would provide me advanced knowledge in those areas along with newer horizons of knowledge to enhance my academic levels and professional heights. The qualification would, in fact, earn me progressions in all aspects that I can expect as a graduate.

The University of Sunderland London support the learning by stimulating contact time that includes lectures, workshops, seminars and case studies.  The modern campus in London is vastly resourceful with rich library, sufficient IT facilities, students’ lounge, and cutting edge classrooms. The tuition also integrates career supports by clarifying ideas, developing a career focus learning and making aware in effective techniques for job interviews and applications – no wonder 85% business graduates of the universities find jobs within 6 months of their graduation. It would be life-time educational experience to become part of the vibrant, diverse colourful learning environment of the university’s London Centre.
