I am an MA in the subject of English – English is a major international language and the language of corporate world. The language dominates the communications among business communities across the globe.

The study of English itself does not have much merit in itself except for academic learning. The knowledge does not have much use apart from communication in the present global climate of business revolution. I have realised this after coming to the UK (unlike my home country- Bangladesh where to have a degree in English is prestigious and easy to get job in any sector) as a dependent of my husband who is a student here. After much thought and research, I have decided to achieve further qualification that would give me greater value as an independent individual and earn me the prospects of bright career – the ACCA programme offered at the BPP University could truly reflect on my learning aims and career vision. It would be great opportunity to study the programme and get myself fit for the new world.

The ACCA qualification that focus on accountancy and finance primarily – could be my route to working at the top of an organisation and earn me a challenging and rewarding job, a career with financial incentives and respect as business or finance professional. The qualification can truly put me in charge of my career with high respect by employers all over the world.

It is important here to mention that I had earlier worked as an Officer in City Investment Co-Operative Society, Sylhet, Bangladesh. During this period of service, I had the opportunity to taste the importance of business and finance in the economy were it for individual, group, society or national/global stage. It was probably that period of working experience in the financial products and services environment, I started building my interests in this versatile area and I took time to gather information on the subject. I have taken my time plan the study and prepare myself – I am now ready to enter the world of ACCA’s domains of knowledge, skills, competences and professional ethics.

The programme not only provides specialist knowledge in finance and accounting, but also trains for valuable skills in organisational management and strategy. The ACCA syllabus is a comprehensive programme in financial management skills. The study and the qualification can provide and enhance my knowledge and skills at advanced levels in financial reporting under IFRS (International Financial Reporting, Management Decision Making, and Financial Strategies. The qualification does not limit, in fact, members to one particular sector – once qualified, I will have the opportunity of working in any sector, financial services or the corporate sector. The qualification can empower me and give access to a broad range of complex and interesting roles and help me make my mark in the dynamic financial sector in a wide range of roles from back to front office i.e. cashier, financial accountant, management accountant, tax accountant, credit control manager, internal/external auditor, fund manager, risk manager, compliance officer, payroll manager, business analyst, business adviser just to name a few.

The 14 written exam papers are conducted in English – my current qualification would play vital role to complement the study and write the exams without language barrier since I hold a master degree in English. My work Experience in the City Investment Co-Operative Society will also have its parts to play in the understanding of few areas of ACCA syllabus. The syllabus of ACCA is structured to provide step by step knowledge – Fundamentals Levels, and Professional Levels. It would be a smooth transition of knowledge building from lower level to higher. 

The fundamentals level will give me the foundation with knowledge of core areas of financial and management accounting as well as general business principles and theories. I will gain skills in a range of core areas of accountancy including tax, financial and management accounting and audit. Completion of this will lead me to progress onto the Professional Level that explore advanced professional skills, techniques and values that I will require to act as an expert accountant in an advisory or consultancy role at senior level. On completion of the professional levels, I will be well equipped with competences that include Corporate Reporting, Leadership and Management, Strategy and Innovation, Financial Management, Sustainable Management Accounting, Taxation, Audit and Assurance, Governance Risk and Control, Stakeholder Relationship Management, Professionalism and Ethics. The knowledge, skills, competences and professional acumen I will achieve from the qualification will define my value with tremendous demands and worth; and I am in it to win it.
