While the world moans about shortage of resources, I say there are abundant of human capital that are underused or used inefficiently as the most important resources. It is imperative that we learn how to manage human resources effectively for healthy business community, efficient organisations, and productive society.
The Human Resource Management function is increasingly significant to business strategy, sustainability and success. Activities such as recruitment, selection, retention, managing labour relations, training and career development are highly important to the financial performance of business and organisations as competition between companies increases. An efficiently managed human resource department adds more value for employers than ever before.
My realisation of the above facts drove me to choose my Bachelor Degree with major in Human Resource Management. I thoroughly enjoyed the study and found out that human resource as a capital has unlimited influential impacts to change business, organisation and overall developments. To carry on my works and attainments on this area, I am now keen to gain higher level knowledge, skills and competences in this vital area; and I have decided to follow the MSc International Human Resource Management programme.
As the world markets are being globalised, human resource management is cutting across geographical boundaries. Therefore, studying human resource management with international aspects is vital – this has prompted to me to choose this MSc.
I notice that the course has been designed to develop the next generation of international human resource managers who can thrive in the highly diverse and volatile environment, where global firms are capitalising on their people to develop long-lasting competitive advantage. The study would equip me with essential knowledge, understanding and skills required to be effective HR practitioners. Through critical analysis and investigation I will develop an understanding of the business and international context within which HR operates, as well as the role of HR in driving organisational performance.
Areas including Leading, managing and developing people; HRM in a strategic business context; Resourcing and talent management; Managing employment relations; Performance and reward management; Learning and talent development; Reflective practice in business leadership; Management research report from this MSc would give me chance to explore deep into the HR arena with theory and practice – this will equip me with skills and competences for becoming a successful HR manager.
Modules including Organisational Behaviour, International Business, Production & Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurship Development, International Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Practice in Bangladesh, Leadership Development, Human Resource Planning, Compensation Management, Industrial Relations from my BBA study have direct and indirect relation with this MSc course’s learning outcome due to the similarities in syllabus contents. These would complement the study comprehensively while the other modules I studied in my BBA would be supportive in learning because they are related to management and organisations one way or another.
This MSc study would enhance my current level of knowledge to advanced level and equip me with higher skills. On completion of the programme I will have a high standard of knowledge and understanding of the current practical, intellectual and policy challenges facing practitioners in the field of human resource management. In particular, I will have developed an understanding of the relationship between HRM and business strategy, learned the impact of HRM on company performance, known the challenge of developing HRM strategies in an international context, gained knowledge of the implications of new individual and collective employment rights, achieved skills to manage change and introduce new forms of work organisation, acquired ability to ensuring that employees are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
This qualification will also provide me with Associate membership with eligibility to be upgraded to a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the pioneer professional body for those involved in the management and development of people.
In next 2 to 5 years of completion of this premier qualification in management, I expect to develop my career in one of these areas - business development and consultancy, management, recruitment, personnel, human resources, training depends on the type of company I open my career in the continuously developing country, my motherland, Bangladesh where national and international business and organisations have been thriving in recent years. In 10 years’ time, I wish to see myself at the peak of my career with riches of life and strongly positioned in the management community.
