Following my MSc in Financial Management qualification in 2012, I have been in constant search for a real career for couple of years with my Tier 1 Post Study Work Visa. Today after 2 years, I have the chance to re-assess  my position and discover the reasons for not being able to match what I really want as career, and this goes without saying that I must acquire professional competency, skills and knowledge that contemporary employers look for, not just an academic degree.

While aiming for a professional qualification that complement my past and present academic attainments and at the same time meets future employers’ expectations, I have reviewed several qualifications – I have finally made decision to study the ACCA qualification, the largest global body for professional accountants.

Therefore, the study would be highly rewarding and beneficial for me in aspects of personal, professional and career developments.

My earlier qualifications, Bachelor Degree in Management and MSc in Financial development have provided me the academic knowledge to some extent for sure – in particular, the knowledge modules in ACCA’s fundamental levels mutually exclude my attainments. As a result, I have obtained exemption awards by ACCA for the first 3 papers for the avoidance of duplication of efforts. While these exemptions have made me happy, I feel happier to see the learning prospects from the Skills and Professional modules of the ACCA study.

The option papers give the choice and flexibility to choose from financial management, performance management, taxation, audit and assurance at advanced level in accordance with career choice and learning needs.

The competences developed through the syllabus of these papers are key attributes global employers seek from an employee, the knowledge disseminated in the teaching are aligned and updated in line with the International Accounting Standards, and adjusted and catered for local business and organisations as precisely as required.  Therefore, the qualification would put me in driving seat of my future career and allow me to steer them for my advantages.

Elements of knowledge from my most recent study of MSc Financial Management including management accounting, financial management, international capital markets, international corporate finance, financial trading techniques, project finance would most certainly complement the professional level modules due to the similarities of learning zones and achievement targets. Obviously, it goes without saying that I would be equipped with advanced level knowledge and skills with professional discourses and ethical acumen from the Study of ACCA Papers – I would gain significant progressions academically, personally and professionally.
