Earnings from working in the UK on student visa

Bangladeshi students will have the right to work while continuing their studies in the UK i.e. 10 hours per week if they are studying foundation course, 20 hours per week studying a bachelor, masters or PhD course. Students will be able to work full time per week during holiday period in between your course.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)s

Do I need IELTS or other UKVI approved English Test Certificate to get unconditional offer from UK universities if all my past studies in Bangladeshi curriculum?

You will need to prove your English Language efficiency through formal English Test. If you do not have valid IELTS or other UKVI approved English test, you can still be accepted by some universities – some UK universities accept Medium of Instruction (MOI) as English in bachelor/masters letter as an alternative to IELTS or other UKVI approved English test.

Some UK universities also accept Duolingo, OIETC, Language Cert etc. test certificates to assert your proficiency in English. Additionally, may UK universities have their own English Language tests to assess students’ profiiciency in English.

Therefore, if you are student from Bangladesh, it is not mandatory for you to have an IELTS test certificate, you may choose to go for other options available as stated above. However, if you are coming for a bachelor or masters foundation course, you must sit IELTS for UKVI.

Will be able to bring my dependents in the UK on my student visa?

Yes, if you undertake a masters or doctorate level course of study in the UK, you can apply with your dependents or bring them later during your studies.

How much fund I need to maintain to apply for student visa in the UK?

If you are coming to study at a University campus inside London for course of 9 months or more duration, you need to have £12006 + any outstanding tuition fees for the 1st year of your course.

If you are coming to study at a University campus outside London for course of 9 months or more duration, you need to have £9207 + any outstanding tuition fees for the 1st year of your course.

If you pay a deposit for student accommodation to the university, then up to £1334 can be offset from the living costs required funds if the campus is inside London or up to £1023 can be offset from the living costs required funds if the campus is outside London.

Any dependent who will apply for entry clearance visa with you will require maintaining £7605 per dependent for University campus inside London for course of 9 months or more duration or £6120 per month for University campus outside London for course of 9 months or more duration.

How much is International Health Surcharge (IHS) fees and student visa application fees for UK?

Students and their dependents will have to pay Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) fees of £470 per year for each applicant. If the course duration is more than a year, each applicant will need to pay HIS fees for all years. Additionally, you will need to pay half year HIS fees for the extra visa you will get on top of your course duration. IHS fees must be paid online during the visa application by an International debit/credit card.

Currently, visa application fee for student and each student dependent applying from outside the UK is £348. Bangladeshi students can pay this online at the time of visa application or pay it by bank card or cash at Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Dhaka or Sylhet at the time of Biometric Fingerprint appointment.

Is there a list of banks/financial intuitions for UK visa applications in Bangladesh?

No, there is no list of UKVI/Home Office approved banks/financial intuitions for UK visa applications in Bangladesh or other countries. In fact, you can prove requirements of funds maintained in an overseas bank/overseas banks/financial institutions in any country provided all the following are met -

  • The Home Office is able to make satisfactory verification checks of the bank/financial institution
  • The bank/financial institution is regulated by the appropriate regulatory body in the respective country
  • The bank/financial institution use electronic record keeping
