Statement of Purpose - DBA Course

Note: the example personal statement (statement of purpose) below is for guidelines only and to help you understand how to write one - do not copy any part of it. When applying to universities, write your own personal statement (statement of purpose) according to your profile for the course you are applying. Please check HERE for detailed guidelines on how to write a personal statement (statement of purpose).

I am very keen to follow Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) course at University of the Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD). While doing my Master in Management with Finance from BPP University after my MBA from University of West London, I became more attached to the management area of business and industry and planned my career in this arena. The DBA course will enable me to gain new horizon of knowledge in those areas and boost my career prospects as a professional business management consultant.

My thirst for education and learning brought me here to London from my home country and my aim for learning didn’t quench even after completing my post-graduation in Business Administration (MBA) and under-graduation in Accountancy and Finance. During my degree, I had an opportunity to complete my one-year internship as an assistant accountant in a well-known firm called EDC Lord & Co Solicitors. And while studying MSc in Management with Finance I had an opportunity to work part time as a Duty Manager in one of well-known hotel groups in the UK.

I can see my past studies, work experience and the learning outcomes of the DBA course complement each other, so I believe that I can bring forward my past knowledge and work experience to this course and can enhance my overall learning by inserting more efforts.

Business Administration is a vast field of work, as there are many opportunities and even one can start his or her own business and utilize the knowledge and skills that one has learnt from it. This is a wide field that incorporates many types of management positions. From major corporations to independent businesses, every operation needs skilled administrators in order to succeed. I found this subject interesting and always make me enthusiastic when it comes to business studies.

During my MBA, I worked on several projects and groups presentations in different fields of business studies like Marketing and Human Resource Management (HRM). For example, my team and I presented our Dubai project which entailed "Acceptance of Harrods in Dubai Culture". This entailed interviewing customers as to what they expect from the store and extensive research into opening a new Harrods Store in Dubai. The main aim of this presentation is to diagnose the factors that can have the impact on the success or failure on the opening of Harrods in Dubai and what are the marketing tactics that can be used to promote Harrods in Dubai Culture. I found it very exciting into designing the store, implementing a business strategy and focusing on what the customers require. The management and teamwork is the focus and the key to a successful business. The following is the link of my presentation on "Acceptance of Harrods in Dubai Culture".

This would provide transferrable skills and first-hand knowledge to make the DBA study interesting and enriched.

I have done some research on UK Universities that are offering full-time DBA courses including, University of the West of Scotland, Teesside University, University of Warwick, University Gloucestershire and University of the Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD). In my findings, UWTSD is one of the forefront universities that have been delivering the course with success in terms of graduates’ employment.  I am impressed by the emphasis placed on analytical, technical and managerial skills of students by the teachers and research methodology which was being taught in the school. The university’s strengths, in the field of business and management, are in correct proportion with my interests in the same field. Also, the faculty’s reputation for excellent teaching style, challenging assignments and coursework, university’s learning environment and excellent facilities compel me to apply for my DBA course in the UWTSD.

The university offers truly global education and exceptional postgraduate experience to learners. The university ranked in the top 15 UK universities for overall student satisfaction in Management studies. 96% of UWTSD students were satisfied with student services. The university was ranked number 2 out of 46 institutions for careers & employability service. 94.2% of UWTSD students are satisfied with class size. 97% of UWTSD postgraduates are in employment and/or further study 6 months after graduating.
