And that is why I am interested in learning all the related skills and knowledge from this course. I think this course will be the right choice for my career plans and objectives. After completion of this course I want to return in my home country and open my career in Pharmaceutical sectors in any leading organization.
Following my SSC, I completed my Diploma in Pharmacy Technician Studies from Bayelsa State College of Health Technology, Nigeria in 2018. I have pursued many activities that have given me experience in this field of study. I used to work in a medicines store named ALAMS Patent Medicine Store as a Staff. From here, I learn how to manage a patent medicine store, advanced my communication skills, and acquire depth knowledge about drugs. Moreover, I take 6 months Industrial Training as IT Student (Dispensing of Drugs & Recording of Daily Sales) from General Hospital Sagbama, Bayelsa in 2017. I am very ambitious and a hard worker. I have always enjoyed math and science throughout my education and I have recognized that I can combine both in a career in pharmacy. I believe pharmacy to be a fast-developing profession as the pharmacists are heavily involved in the introduction of new medicines for all kinds of illnesses, and I find the prospect of working in this field inspiring. If I can successfully complete this course it will create a platform for me to explore different career opportunities such as Pharmaceutical Scientist, Chemical Analyst, or Biomedical Researcher. After completing this course, I want to come back to my country and aim to Chaslit Chemical Industries Ltd or Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited as a Pharmaceutical Scientist.
The BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical Science programme at University of Hertfordshire provides the opportunity to develop multi-disciplinary skills through working with other healthcare students. Students have also the opportunity to gain transferable skills needed for real world work. Actually, I am highly aware of University of Hertfordshire’s outstanding reputation and it will be a privilege for me to acquire more knowledge within the program as I still have so much to learn.
In my home country, Education is theory based with a lack of equipment, investments and shortage of faculties. And the important fact is degrees are not internationally recognized and valued and graduates remain unemployed for years as they are not career ready. Degrees do not develop transferable skills like the UK. Actually education is lag far behind the UK.
I prefer to study my chosen course in the UK as the study environment in my country is quite different and we get to study with only the national students. Furthermore the political chaos makes it harder for students to get the degree without any delay. On the other hand the UK has a great multicultural and diversified student community which is an opportunity for me to learn with lot of students from different nationalities. UK education brand is highly respected by employers in our country as UK degree prepare graduates with academic competencies, developed personal and professional skills that are imperative for organizational success. The transferrable skills graduates carry forward from UK are pivotal for transforming organisational growth and gain competitive advantages. In a recent Survey of International Graduate Outcomes 2019 by Universities UK International produced by iGraduate shows that 82% international graduates say that their UK degree are worth the financial investment and similar number of graduates say that they are satisfied or very satisfied with their careers. Nearly 83% feel that UK degree has helped them to get jobs. These aspects have driven my ambition to gain the degree from a UK institution.
I looked at many Universities but choose University of Hertfordshire because of its content and structure which has a distinct focus on international context and professional level. Also, Hertfordshire is home to around 25,000 students with 5,000 of those coming from overseas. It has a state-of-the-art simulation hospital ward and pharmacy helping to prepare the Healthcare and Pharmacy students for work by giving them practical experience. 96% of Hertfordshire's graduates are in work or further study within 6 months of graduating. The University has achieved the top gold ranking in the Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2018. Most of the Hertfordshire’s tutors have real-world expert experience. The university engages students as part of their success. Studying here would give me the chance to differentiate myself with distinct accomplishments and success.
